Jenson Button, Winner?

By Team Principal on Fri May 19 2006

Everyone loves a loser.

Regardless of how hard he is trying and how much bad luck the man has, Jenson Button is still a loser. However, his inner optimist has fought its way back into the open with the statement that he is determined to win the Monaco Grand Prix.

What you have read above is essentially how this news will be covered by the British press (and any other countries that care), as it is fashionable to knock the loser. However, it matters little to me whether the guy has won races or not and this time, his optimism is at least based on some statistical fact.

The streets of Monte Carlo are more often than not conquered by the pole sitter. Button's qualifying pace this season has been excellent and regardless of his lack of race pace, if he is at the front, he can at least attempt to control those behind him. The new qualification format for this year is going to make it very interesting and may provide as much excitement as the race itself. What could be more exciting that JB breaking his duck here?
